First thing first, there are no ways to prevent colon cancer, but there are ways that can lower the risk of colon cancer.
Colorectal Cancer Screening
Screening is a process which is performed by doctors in order to find symptoms of developing colorectal cancer. To prevent colorectal cancer one of the most powerful weapons is regular screening.
In the beginning, the abnormal cells start to grow into the polyps. This small polyp takes around 10 to 15 years in order to grow. Regular screening helps in finding such polyps and thus it can also be removed before it is converted to cancer. Colorectal screening helps in finding cancer early and easy to treat.
If you are the one at the age of 45 or 50, make sure you get the screening done on a regular basis. The doctor will inform you about the schedule so you don’t have to worry about that. There are several types of tests performed or recommended by the doctor.
If anyone in your family had a strong history of colorectal cancer than there are higher chances of developing the same to you too. This is the case when you should talk to your doctor about the same. It doesn’t matter what test the doctor is performing, but make sure that the test is performed. Genetic consulting is the best thing that the doctor will review to check the medical tree which will further find out how likely you have family cancer syndrome.
